The City Inspector position was established in 1997 to deal with growing development and lack of construction standards in Cameron. Up to that time, the Building Department had a part-time employee who was called on to perform two to three basic inspections per building project on an as-needed basis.

From 1998 to 2008, there were more than 400 new homes built, each home requiring a minimum of 12 to 20 separate inspections not including re-inspections. Thousands of renovations, remodels, additions on residential properties, and commercial projects have necessitated additional requirements and inspections.

The City of Cameron’s goal is to ensure that new construction and improvements to existing buildings comply with current standards which provide safety for the inhabitants and value to the property owners.
